Australian wool producers will be given a choice of five funding levels for levies for Australian Wool Innovation Limited (AWI) to invest in research, development, innovation and marketing; aimed at improving the long-term profitability of Australian woolgrowers.
Following the recommendation of the 2006 WoolPoll Panel, Chaired by Dr John Keniry, AWI has decided levies of zero, one, two, two and a half and three per cent will be voted on by levy payers.
AWI Chairman, Mr Ian McLachlan is urging all eligible producers to vote in WoolPoll starting in September 2006, to determine the direction of their industry.
“This is the opportunity for all wool growers to have their say on the future of their industry,” says Mr McLachlan.
“To secure the future success of Australian Merino wool, AWI will endeavour to build on its current successes to drive demand through direct business relationships, and deliver the products these businesses are looking for. Research, development and marketing are critical to this.”
AWI is required to conduct a poll of woolgrower levy payers (WoolPoll) every three years under the Wool Services Privatisation Act.
In September, voting packs will be sent to woolgrowers who have paid $100 or more in wool sales levy in the three years to 30 June 2006.
