Handicrafts should be brought into the limelight as it not only promotes and presents Iranian and Islamic culture but also provides livelihood for thousands of households in the country, said first Vice-President Parviz Davoudi, addressing Handicrafts Conference and Exhibition.
Davoudi pointed out that merger of Iran's Handicrafts Organization and Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization has been in line with policies to support those engaged in this industry.
He hoped the merger can bring the handicrafts industry into its original status.
About government's policy of assisting entrepreneurs in country, he said 180,000 billion rials have been allotted for this purpose.
However, he lamented over low figures of handicrafts exports and advised related officials to prepare an inclusive plan on marketing artifacts across the globe.
He also censured official in charge for their negligence in paying due attention to the handicrafts industry.
