Even though fuel costs are rising, Thailand's textile and garment exports are expected to improve 4-5 percent this year, informed Textile Industry Development Institute.

In the first quarter of 2006, textile and garment exports grew by 9-10 percent compared to same period last year, informed Virat Tandejanurat, Director of Textile Industry Development Institute.

Though there are various trade barriers, Virat is confident that textile exports will continue to grow 4-5 percent this year.

State should speed up the proposed free trade pact between Thailand and Japan as the latter imports 93 percent of textile from China and the rest from the other countries.

If Thailand provides better quality textile and garment products at reasonable prices then it can boost up its textile exports to Japan.

On the other hand, he warned that if Japan enters into free trade agreement with countries like Malaysia, Vietnam and Philippines, then Thailand's export would suffer.
