An Indian firm, Olam Cotton Company, a subsidiary of Parrogate Investments, has built a US$2.5 million cotton ginnery at Mutora Growth Point, Nembudziya in Gokwe North.
The ginnery started operations recently generating job opportunities for 300 people, said Nirmal Bolia, Director, Olam.
Company exports 70 percent of lint while the rest is for the local market. It has also acquired 20000 tons of seed and have been stored for farmers for the next planting season. Its ginning capacity is 25000 metric tons of seed cotton per year, he added.
With the help of Government and local community, the ginnery is well ahead of its schedule in its operations.
Bolia sounded confident that company would earn at least US $4.8 million this year.
