Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia says in July 2006 monthly inflation at -0.2 percent, annual inflation at 1.9 percent and the 12-month average rate at 2.5 percent.
As in the previous month, this month too we registered deflation. Compared to June 2006, in July 2006 consumer prices fell on average by 0.2 percent, while in the first seven months of 2006 they rose by 1.8 percent.
The overall decrease in prices is the result of lower prices of goods, on average by 1.1 percent; prices of semi-durable goods dropped the most (by 7.9 percent), followed by durable goods with 0.1 percent, while non-durable goods were 0.4 percent more expensive. On the other hand, prices of services continue to grow, this time they were up by 1.6 percent. Among services, prices of package holidays grew the most.
EMU convergence price index unchanged The growth of prices measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices was also negative (-0.3 percent). Nevertheless, the 12-month average price growth measured with the EMU convergence price index remained the same as in June, i.e. 2.6 percent.
According to the latest data for June 2006, the EMU convergence criterion for inflation was 2.8 percent, which means that Slovenia was 0.2 of a percentage point below the criterion.
Summer sales pushed prices down - In July prices decreased in clothing and footwear (by 11.5 percent)
This year, sales of clothes and footwear had the greatest impact in July; clothing was 12.1 percent cheaper while prices of footwear dropped by 12.2 percent.
