First International Uzbek Cotton Fair, which was held in Tashkent in accordance with the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Islam Karimov, undoubtedly became one of the most significant and important events of World Cotton Community in 2005.
Scale of that event, quantity and quality criteria of the participants as well as final results provide for the start of a new stage of development of co-operation among countries and organizations engaged in the production, processing and realization of cotton.
The fair, where 350 representatives of 200 foreign companies from 26 countries took part, produced a great impulse to development of market mechanisms of cotton fiber sale and to perfection of economic relations between Uzbek producers and buyers.
According to the numerous interviews, given by the foreign cotton specialists, published and broadcasted during the Fair by the mass media, Uzbekistan is becoming a recognized leader in reforming the cotton sector in complex.
Especially this is related to issues of standardization, certification, cultivation and sale of certain types of cotton, which are in great demand on the world market.
Each day of the Fair was full of meetings, negotiations and excursions. All participants and guests could become acquainted with perspectives of cotton fiber production in our country, system of quality evaluation, improvement of the rating and perspectives of the developmentof cotton-ginning industry.
