Rs70 crore expansion project under the Technology Upgradation Fund (TUF) of Central Government is being implemented by yarn manufacturing company, Pacific India Ltd (PCL).
The project will be in proximity to its existing unit at Falta Special Economic Zone and will help company to double its capacity from 30,528 to 55,728 spindles.
Ashok Mehra, Chairman of the company disclosed that project would allow them to add compact cotton yarn to its existing range of combed and carded yarn and organic cotton yarn. The production capacity will also increase to 8,300 tons from 6,500 tons.
Company's fortunes will change as well with the turnover expected to reach Rs285 crore from Rs125 crore and project will also give employment to 700 people.
Laying the foundation stone for the project, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddadeb Bhattacharjee informed that four districts- Bardhhaman, Bankura, Birbhum and South 24 Parganas had been chosen for cotton cultivation as the exporters of the region will benefit due to low cost of production.
