NATIONAL Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) has appealed to various State Governments to follow in the footsteps of Federal Government to re-energize the industries especially textile sector.
The union lauded the efforts of Federal Government to revive the textile industry by implementing measures like banning textile fabric import, steps related to cotton production rebirth and a commendable effort to set up N50 billion Textile Industry Revival Fund.
The union opined that investment in labour-intensive textile sector will help in their revival and will also help in large employment generation. The generation of employment will help the poverty situation improve at a good pace.
The union also urged states to save textile industry from total breakdown and asked for the revival of Kaduna Textile Limited (KTL). It blamed unjust trade liberalization, poor infrastructure and fluctuating Government policies for the collapse of the textile industry and urged Governments to take urgent steps fro revival.
