Minister urges Manipur handloom weavers to upgrade quality

Manipur Commerce and Industries Minister, N Mangi, encouraged domestic artisans and weavers to manufacture high quality handloom products, as these have a growing demand in not only other Indian states but also abroad.
As Chief Guest of 'Market Development of Handloom Clothes' expo in Imphal he said that the mechanical dying house being set up under the Deen Dayal Hathargha Protsahan Yojana will definitely help weavers significantly.
He also pointed out that the state registering top sales at recent Pragati Maidan Handloom Expo in Delhi, proved the capability of the merchandise and the potential of its market.
Mangi hopes to put up retail booths exclusively for women handloom labourers in the state.
Government also acknowledged the need to set up a market complex for handloom products for 238 registered handloom organizations and other unregistered units.
Plans are also being developed to use natural extracts to dye yarn.
