Silk industry gets fillip with Dongyang Govt support

Silkworm farmers in Dongyang city have reaped good profit this year only to prompt more farmers to take up silkworm farming.
Local Government is greatly developing silkworm industry by providing more than 400,000 mulberry seedlings to farmers under a project launched across the 17 villages.
Jiang town in Dongyang city is a major hub of silkworm industry with over 3000 acres of mulberry area and more than 400 farmers planting mulberry.
This project includes extensive cultivation to solve related problems in mulberry and pesticide pollution. Government has popularized science and technology to raise silkworms, and has also promoted greenhouse sericulture technology.
From last year, cocoon price is stably increasing, and this year, cocoon price has reached RMB66 a kilogram encouraging local farmers.
Under the project, Government will also train 100 sericulture farmers and enable them to achieve an annual net income of over RMB10,000.
In addition, silkworm drug manufacturers will supply silkworm medicine at low cost and it will lower around 30 percent of drug costs.
