Vice Premier Peiyan advises textiles sector to pull up its act

Chinese Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan advised textile sector to improve its competitiveness.
He was speaking at a conference to honour model textile workers and manufacturers where he mentioned that the sector needs to keep up pace on restructuring and upgradation efforts while seeking help of scientific and technological developments taking place in the country.
He stressed on additional efforts to develop textile brands, consume less energy and avoid causing environmental damage during the production process.
Textile industry of the country played important role in expansion of exports, creation of job opportunities and maintain better standard of living.
Only negligible amount of investment of about 0.16 to 0.3 percent is spent on research and development compared to five percent in developed countries, observed the Vice Premier.
Remarkably last year, textile export of China accounted for 24 percent of the world's total textile exports.
