Wal-Mart in awe of Xinjiang color cotton village

Recently, the World retail giant Wal-Mart visited Xinjiang farming corps to have a look over the production and processing state of color cotton.
No 148 regiment of farming division eight started growing color cotton in 1999, since then, an industrialized farming base has gradually formed, which is mainly built on cotton production and it integrates planting, processing and marketing, being called as 'market + base + agriculture and industry'.
In 2000, the presidial region of No 148 regiment was classified as demonstration district of color cotton industry. In 2001, the place was awarded the title of 'China color cotton village'.
The regiment made use of the brand advantage, in over five years; they put into market of series of high quality color cotton products, which are popular and featured with environmental friendliness and healthiness through research and development.
They accelerate the scale of color cotton industry with series of products through spinning, weaving, clothing, bedding and other development. The scale of color cotton industry has been gradually enlarged and strengthened.
At present, the No 148 regiment of the eight farming division has become the nation's largest color cotton cultivation base.
In recent years, the regiment has kept looking for business opportunities. Earlier this year, they signed sales contracts of color cotton with some leading cotton purchasing enterprises.
It hasbeen speculated that this year No 148 regiment planted 40,000 mu (1 hectare =15 mu) of brown color cotton, which is expected to yield over 320 kg unginned cotton per-mu, and the total output of unginned cotton is expected to reach 12.8 million kg.
According to the principal of Wal-Mart headquarters Shanghai, the primary purpose of their visit to No 148 regiment this time was to learn about the production and processing of color cotton.
Having seen color cotton in the field, they got very interested. They gave high marks to the planting, processing, spinning capacity of No 148 regiment, and the visit strengthened their confidence in bilateral cooperation and communication in the future.
