He also mentioned the huge opportunities that lay in infrastructure development, and suggested 'public-private partnership' as an apt way of achieving the same.
Member Secretary National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council Mr V Govindarajan spoke of the problems which the manufacturing sector faced, and how the NMCC was the first organisation set up with a mandate to better things for manufacturing. “As economic growth takes place, citizens will have more spending power, this will result in their buying capacity going up – and they will buy things that are manufactured."
"This is what creates an enormous opportunity for manufacturing,” he said. He said that while India had 'missed the bus' in terms of better growth rates by China and S E Asian countries, it was time to ensure it didn't happen a second time around.
He said that manufacturing was the base of economic activity, and it would get the much-required focus from the Indian Government as a result of the Council's activities.
Translating Innovations in products, processes and business models into results through flawless execution was the takeaway from CII's Fifth Manufacturing Summit, which had the theme, 'Innovate and Win'.
The summit, which was graced by many prominent players in the Manufacturing sector, set an apposite platform for continued and sustainable growth in the sector through innovations.
