After declining for six consecutive months, cotton imports bounced back sharply in November, but still remain lower than the same period last year.
In November 2006, China imported 155,000 tons of cotton, representing an increase of 70,000 tons from October, or up 82.4 percent. The figure is 70,000 tons short of that during same period last year, indicating a decrease of 31.1 percent.
In January-November 2006, China imported a total quantity of 3.4026 million tons of cotton, an increase of 53.15 percent over the corresponding period last year.
In 2006 cotton year (September-November 2006), imports touched 374,300 tons with year-on-year decrease of 49.14 percent.
