Vaghela - EPCH fund to drive handicrafts marketing in world market

The Minister for Textiles, Shri Shankersinh Vaghela presented the 15th annual Export Awards to 129 handicrafts exporters for their outstanding performance during the year 2003-04 and 2004-05 here.

The award presentation ceremony was organized by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), an apex body for promotion of Handicrafts.

While presenting the Awards, Shri Vaghela said that the handicrafts exporters are playing very important role of spreading Indian heritage and culture all over the world by exporting handicrafts from various regions of the country to various markets of world.

He said, besides, the exporters also contribute to the Indian economy in very substantial manner by earning valuable foreign exchange and to the Indian society in creating employment, particularly in the rural area.

The Textiles Minister said that any increase of the exports of handicrafts directly results in increase of employment opportunities. It is the responsibility of the Ministry of Textiles and the EPCH to give the share of the exports to its artisans.

He said that the handicrafts exports has reached 16,000 crore rupees during 2006-07 and till April to November, 2006 the exports clocked at Rs. 9,116 crore.

Shri Vaghela exhorted that the exporters and the industry to work steadfastly towards increasing India's share in the global market for handicraft products and stressed the need of upgrading the technology facilitiesto be at part with the international standards.
