India is expected to emerge as one of the leading cotton exporters in 2007 because of its quality and pricing.

In 2007, China is expected to lead cotton importers and there is good opportunity for Indian cotton as Chinese textile sector will require regular supply of cotton.

For 2006-2007, Cotton Advisory Board estimated cotton exports to surge by 5 million bales (1 bale=170 kg) compared to 4.7 million bales year ago.

It also estimated cotton output to reach 27 million in 2006-2007 compared to 24.4 million bales in 2005-06.

Till March, prices are expected to be stable due to huge arrivals and prices may increase because of demand from both domestic and overseas textile industry in second half.

Even unpredictable change in weather of Asia and US and drought in Australia are likely to affect supply of cotton.
