The figures, produced by the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCIS) that shows 24 percent decline in the textile exports, were countered by the Textile ministry, saying that this figures are untrue and in fact the exports has climb by 20 percent since January 2005
On the issue, Union Textile Minister Shankersinh Vaghela said that the figure of DGCIS is incorrect, as the ministry has not received a single complaint from exporters that their business is down. However, it is anticipated that exports from India will reach almost double.
To gather the data and bring out real facts of the exports output, the ministry has formed a committee.
Sudhir Bhargava, Joint Secretary (exports) in the ministry explained that the role of DGCIS is to maintain data, based on the value of exports and it might have produced figures little lower due to decline in prices of textile products in the international market after elimination of global quota system.
India's textile exports to US were up by 25 percent and to EU 10 percent, he added.
