Ajanta Group, quartz clock and tile manufacturer located in Morbi, is planning to penetrate cotton exports to Chinese markets since the cash crop could bring in considerable trade in future with demand growing in China.
Speaking to media sources, Director Nevil Patel informed that Ajanta is studying supply and demand prospects of the cotton exports market.
Chief cotton markets in Gondal, Manavdar and Surendranagar have already been surveyed. Company is accumulating figures of price fluctuations, market size, production matters and last but not the least, China's quota policy on cotton import.
Ajanta's plan will be implemented immediately after Chinese Government fixes rates of quotas and levies.
China purchased huge quantity of local cotton in 2006 and from then onwards, demand for Saurashtra cotton has gone up immensely. Further, cotton production has grown from the previous year due to groundnut producers opting for cotton yields.
Lesser outputs in China during 2006 compelled it to buy about 5 million lakh cotton bales from the country.
