According to a nationwide survey conducted by China cotton institute and national science and technology service program team, up to mid November 2006, the national cotton output value of main products in 2006 increased by 1.7 percent, but production yield reduced by 7.7 percent, with substantial gaps among different regions.

Nationwide samples of unginned cotton production stood at 265 kg per mu (one hectare =15 mu) in 2006, growing 13.8 percent from 2005.

In the three major drainage areas, Yangtze River valley produced 250 kg per mu, up 14.5 percent. Yellow River valley produced 242 kg per mu, 5.6 percent higher comparing with the growth in 2005. Northwest area produced 328 kg per mu, increasing 6.4 percent.

In 2006, national cotton output value of main products was 1325.5 yuan per mu, rising 22.1 yuan per mu over 2005, up 1.7 percent.

In the three major drainage areas, Yangtze River valley obtained 1261.6 yuan per mu, growing 67.7 yuan per mu over 2005, up 5.7 percent. Yellow River valley achieved 1234.2 yuan per mu, reducing 62.8 yuan per mu from 2005, down 4.8 percent. Northwest area reaped 1558.5 yuan per mu, decreasing 69.3 yuan from 2005 representing a drop of 4.3 percent. The main reason for the higher output value of Yangtze products was the absolute yield increment.

National main cotton products income was 440.6 yuan per mu in 2006, less 36.6 yuan per mu than 2005, down 7.7 percent.

In the three major drainageareas, Yangtze River valley received 465.2 yuan per mu, increasing 23.9 yuan per mu over 2005, up 5.4 percent. Yellow River valley attained 473.5 yuan per mu, reducing 97.1 yuan per mu from 2005, down 17.8 percent. Northwest area achieved 344.2 yuan per mu, less 195.4 yuan per mu from 2005, fell by 36.2 percent.
