Commerce Ministry may soon call representative of World Bank in Delhi, regarding its Dhaka office study that questions the likely benefits of a free trade agreement (FTA) between Bangladesh and India.
According to the study, if Bangladesh reduces duties on imports from India then it may replace even cheaper goods currently imported from East Asia.
It also raises concerns about Indian exporters colluding among themselves or with Bangladesh's importers to raise the price of goods.
Experts are of the opinion that report includes both positive and negative impact on Bangladesh after entering into FTA.
The Government should reduce non-trade barriers on textile products that can help people to access cheaper clothes in Bangladesh.
