The two-day Global Investors' Summit (GIS) at the most awaited Vibrant Gujarat is set to commence at the Science City on January 12.

The State Government has recently announced that the focus of the Vibrant Gujarat would be special economic zones (SEZ) and ports and port-led development. This has poured 10 more SEZs proposals from private parties across the State.

The centre has approved 33 SEZs, and the private investors were supposed to sign most of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) for new proposal of SEZ projects during this event. These projects would be multi-product ones, with an average 1,000 hectares of land.

This may attract huge investments from leading corporate houses such as Reliance, Essar, Adani, Suzlon, Zydus, Dishman industries.

The approved SEZ projects include products like textile and apparel among others.

Another important area at the summit will be ports and port-led development. 18 MoUs worth Rs 13,400 crore are expected to be inked in this sector.

Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) sources revealed that proposal list for developing new port sites include Mahuva, Khambhat, Dahej, Modhwa, Sutrapada and Porbandar.

Private parties are making huge investment in the port-led development area for building intra and inter-port logistics, container terminals, warehouses and cold storage chains.
