Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso) is going to invest US $37.5 million for leather tanning projects during the period of 2006 to 2010, sources informed.
Association also requested footwear enterprises to increase the development process as demand for leather tanned footwear is increasing in global market, especially in developed countries like France and Italy.
Vietnam currently produces just 4.6 million square meter of tanned leather per year and imports about 28 million square meter for domestic production.
