An exhibition, held at designer Indira Broker's studio from January 18 to 19, 2007, blends West Bengal's elegant handloom fabrics with intense art.
A quick look at the artistic display tells that both fabrics and paintings here concentrate on texture.
Textile designers Bappa and Rumi Biswas, who specialize in handwoven cloth, have highlighted the splendor of a product finished on the loom. Bailou is a fabric on display, woven in West Bengal yet symbolizing international culture.
According to Bappa, young weavers who had forsaken their family business are embracing their tradition once again due to his and Rumi's efforts.
Major attraction of the expo is saris in various colours, featuring Jamdani work and sequins. According to Rumi, purpose of the event is to preserve skills and tradition of weavers while adopting current trends simultaneously.
