Silk sector's annual output value to reach $31.25bn by 2010

Ministry of Commerce has formulated a plan to raise annual output value of local silk sector to US $31.25 billion by 2010. This value is 66.7 percent higher than that in 2005.

Targets for the sector's development in the period between 2006 and 2010 have been set by the Ministry. By 2010 end, silk production could reach 1,90,000 tons.

As per statistics, 90 percent of world export market and 74 percent of global raw silk output during 2005 was generated by China, the biggest global silk producer.

It is anticipated that exports of silk goods will bring in $5.5 billion for the country by 2010.
