In order to relieve cotton farmers who had to bear crop loss owing to the use of transgenic seeds, Dharmapuri administration is making efforts to give them compensation. Tamil Government was forwarded a report requesting compensation, according to District Collector Pankaj Kumar Bansal.

Administration was submitted a memorandum seeking help by distressed farmers belonging to Harur, Pappireddipatti and Morappur Union. Consequently, Bansal formed a district-level committee to detect reasons for crop loss.

Farmers have been instructed to purchase seeds henceforth from Government authorized agencies only. Private dealers selling transgenic cotton seeds in Dharmapuri have been banned by Government.
