Year's 1st fortnight reports steady trend in cotton market

First fortnight of the year saw lint prices in country remaining steady in all terminal markets even in face of lower volumes coupled with slow movement of cotton due to holidays.
South India Cotton Association's (SICA) market report informs that arrivals in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan slowed down but prices remained stable, where Deshi lots were quoted between Rs1,290 to Rs1,450 and J-34 Saw ginned between Rs1450 to Rs 1,680 per maund spot.
Gujarat too reported similar trend with Shankar-6 being quoted between Rs17,200 to Rs17,800 and V-797 between Rs12,700 to Rs 13,000 per candy spot.
Madhya Pradesh too was steady with MECH-1 and H4 being quoted between Rs 17,000 to Rs 17,600 per candy spot.
Based on staple length of 27 mm to 30mm Lint prices ranged between Rs16,500 and Rs17,500 per candy spot in Maharashtra, the report said.
For MCU5 variety lint prices in Andhra Pradesh were being quoted between Rs17,000 to Rs19,500 per candy spot.
Prices in Karnataka were on steady to firm trend whereas it was on a steady to mixed trend in Tamil Nadu with DCH-32 being quoted between Rs28,000 and Rs30,000 per candy spot.
