As most of the countries are taking advantage of the Bt cotton, only domestic sector is lagging behind to adopt new technology.
Lack of co-ordination between concerned Government organizations is considered as one of the main reasons.
Many farmers are already growing Bt cotton without permission of Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock (MINFAL) to grow this variety of crop.
According to present rules and regulations, sowing of Bt cotton is considered illegal.
To introduce Bt cotton officially, the said variety must be tested for longer period.
According to a report, about 200 million hectares of Bt crops will be sowed in more than 40 countries. It also indicates about 21 percent Bt crop growth rate in developing countries compared to nine percent in industrialized nations.
