Eleven more farmers have committed suicide in cotton-growing region of Vidarbha region of Maharasthra taking the number of farmers who have taken this drastic step to 62 in the current month, an NGO reported on Monday.
Districts of Yavatmal, Washim, Nagpur, Amaravati, Wardha and Chandrapur, have reported the suicide cases during last two days, informed Kishore Tiwari, President, Vidarbha Jana Andolan Samiti.
Last year, Vidarbha reported suicides of 1,050 farmers. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had visited and announced a relief package for farmers facing bankruptcy and crop failure.
The state's Congress-NCP led government too had announced several relief measures.
State government paid compensation to 682 families of the deceased farmers, the samiti claimed.
