In order to differentiate amongst products manufactured in other parts of India and outside in domestic and foreign markets, Kerala would market its coir products under brand name `Kerala Coir: Golden Yarn of God's Own Country,' announced the Minister for Coir G. Sudhakaran at a press conference
The logo of Kerala coir brand is scheduled to be released by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan on Friday, informed Sudhakaran.
For Kerala's annual export earnings from coir products to rise to Rs.1,500 crore and sales in Indian market to go up to Rs.3,000 crore over the next five years, government has formulated a plan for the same.
Common branding along with common quality control system is one of the measures to push demand for State's coir products.
Comparing coir products with other States and countries Kerala's products were far superior in quality.
Reason for this was the practice of retting (keeping the fibre immersed in waterbodies for several weeks before using it for making coir) which gave strength, durability and superior texture to the fibre.
