For textile workers whose wage revision has been pending for last eight years, INTUC has stepped in to support their demand and have asked for a wage board to be constituted.

INTUC Vice-President P L Subbiah told reporters that over 12 lakh workers, including 3.5 lakh in Tamil Nadu, were drawing Rs 90 as minimum wage.

He suggested that government should provide substantial interim relief, till the wage board is constituted and should announce its recommendations within a time-frame.

Indian textile mills were functioning well for last two years and same was the case for Tamilnadu textile mills hence industrial workers who were getting Rs 1,300 should get enhanced pension, Subbiah said.
