Fabric exports turnover reaches $195.5mn in 2006

In 2006, Vietnam exported US $195.5 million worth of fabric which has registered a rise of 69 percent compared to 2005, official sources from MOT said.

Among all international markets, exports to Arab Saudi has made the strongest growth in 2006 at 396 percent in comparison with 2005, generated $16.5 million.

However, China remained the biggest importing market during the period, reached $18.7 million, up by 144 percent over 2005 while exporting to Cambodia earned $17 million with year on year growth of 67 percent.

On the contrary, the figures of Korea and Bangladesh saw sharp decline, as Korea imported just $10.5 million worth of the goods in 2006, a 30 percent drop compared to 2005.

There was 30 percent hike in price of the goods at all markets with average quote at around $0.88 per yard (FOB price), including 100% cotton fabric ($3.0 per yard, a remarkable drop against $3.5 per yard in 2005) and polyester fabric ($0.93 per yard, up by 30 percent).

By the year end, there were 530 enterprises exporting goods, 100 enterprises more than that in 2005. This trend is a positive sign for exports in 2007.

The Formosa Taffeta Vietnam Co stand in the top exporting companies list in 2006, as the company exported more than $23 million worth of the goods with a 80 percent growth, followed by Ulha Vietnam Co., Ltd ($17.9 million), Hualon Corporation Vietnam ($17 million grew at 59 percent).
