ID Dunedin Chair Susie Staley says the Vodafone ID Dunedin Fashion Week is a major creative event for Dunedin and New Zealand, whose growth and success is mirrored by the number of young, emerging and established designers living and working in Dunedin.

Dunedin may seem an unconventional place to start a fashion career, yet it's a creative city plugged into a worldwide network of ideas and innovation – a remote outpost on the global fashion frontier.

The Vodafone ID Dunedin Emerging Designer Awards competition is a highlight of the week, and is generating an international buzz in fashion schools around the world, and in 2006 featured everything from modernist Mary Quant styles to buzzy bee Kiwiana.

This year, the 2007 Vodafone ID Dunedin Awards promises a world of collections ranging from "American Booty", "Bellamy -Greatest Hits" to "High School High", and everything in between.

Vodafone ID Dunedin Fashion Week opens on Tuesday 6 March with the return of the Arthur Barnett Fashion Show featuring Dunedin retailers and special guest Lorraine Downes, to be held at the Edgar Centre, starting 7pm. Tickets are available from Arthur Barnett.

Throughout the week, fashionistas will want to head down to Meridian Mall in George Street to experience a fashion capsule of daily fashion, beauty and make-up shows, free to the public.

Wednesday 7 March features a brand new off-site retail show from Steph Oliver of Stir, who takes overthe Hall Brothers Recycling Depot for a night of fashion and fun from 8pm. Tickets available from Stir, 316 George Street.
