Competition compels Owen Blankets to cut work force

Springs Global US, the plant owner for Owen Blankets, after facing fierce foreign competition in the world market has decided to reduce its cost by cutting its work force by another 150 people.
Company announced to shift its production of cotton woven blankets to Brazil.
About 200 workers will remain at the Swannanoa plant after the cuts take effect from April to August.
The number of textile and apparel workers in 23 western North Carolina counties fell from 33,807 in 1996 to 11,752 in mid-2006.
