With decision of Rockland Textile to shut down Tej Knitwear, SA Clothing and Textile Workers' Union (SACTWU) has asked explanation behind the step.

They are planning to call meeting on aspects that led to closure of the company.

According to sources, company has destroyed machineries and equipments worth ZAR12 million.

It acquired bankrupt Tej Knitwear for ZAR15.3 million. Union alleged company of not honouring a verbal agreement even after its active role in helping Rockland to acquire Tej.

Even after conducting meeting on two occasions to save Tej, company went ahead and scrapped the machines.

According to Rockland, it had done every thing to save Tej from closure but had failed to do so.
