TCF faces challenges with amendment of Employment Relations Bill

Fiji Cabinet approved the amendments in the Employment Relations Bill related to maternity leave and the list of essential services. The bill will be enacted and would come into effect from October.

The Textile, Clothing and Footwear Council (TCF) spokesman Mark Halabe has reacted quite badly.

According to Halabe, the bill will put additional pressures on the employers. The provisions in the bill will drive costs up by an estimated 7 percent, without any productivity off sets. The TCF industry will be less competitive and will find it harder to compete with China, which will lead to less export from Fiji.

The Fiji TCF has to absorbe these challenges and make the industry more efficient to maintain and increase the $10 million export industry.
