Chennai hosts Mriganayanee & North East handicraft fairs

Mrignayanee exhibition, running at Guild of Service in Egmore, presents attractive vegetable dyed Chanderis and Maheshwari sarees. Vibrant colours adorn the typically bordered sarees, fabric and dupattas featuring block print designs.

Other attractions include jute and bamboo curtains. Exhibition closes on February 18, 2007.

Another handicrafts expo, North East Crafts Fair, is on at Corporation Community Center in Alwarpet. This fair, sponsored by office of the Development Commissioner for Handicrafts showcases cane and bamboo products as main highlights.

Kuana grass mattresses, cushions from Manipur, crafted screens from Tripura, moorhas from Assam and elegant sofa sets are attention-grabbing items on display. Summer wear such as handmade sarees, dupattas and fabric from Manipur are on sale at this fair, which ends on February 25, 2007.

Both these handicraft expos in Chennai have grass, straw, reeds, jute, bamboo and nature's colours in common.
