Indian cotton in great demand among textile groups

These days, many textile groups are trying to import cotton from India as they are of better quality compared to local varieties, despite high prices.
According to sources, better quality and more finished products are major attraction for textile industry.
Currently, cotton imported from India costs Rs150 to Rs200 per maund more compared to domestic price.
Most of the shipments are routed through Mumbai-Oman-Karachi as imports from Wagah border are restricted by the Government.
Improvement in quality of cotton is major concern of industry. Government has recently imparted training to growers for producing contamination free cotton.
