MEPZ exports climb to Rs1,957 cr in current fiscal

CHENNAI
Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) Special Economic Zone (MEPZ SEZ) continues to perform well with exports growing to Rs1,957.27 crore during current fiscal.
Of the total exports, engineering industry has contributed about 29.21 percent amounting to Rs571.83 crore, Electronics and software industry exports touched Rs507.22 crore, accounting for 25.91percent,
Garments and textiles industry exports to the tune of Rs293.53 crore, which is about 15percent, Gems and jewellery segment contributed 12.44 percent amounting to Rs243.50 crore Chemical, plastic and allied industries exports have reached Rs174.77 crore and leather and sports goods segment exports reached Rs 110.99 crore.
Exports from MEPZ SEZ has US topping the list with 52.33 percent of exports amounting to Rs1,024.33 crore, about 7.22 percent (Rs 141.49 crore) by the UAE, 4.8 percent (Rs 94.1 crore) to the UK, 4.72 percent (Rs 92.46 crore) to Dubai, 4.4 percent (Rs 86.29 crore) to Germany and 3.46 percent of exports amounting to Rs 67.89 crore to France.
