Pakistan's exports recovered from a long period of stagnation last year. Exports surged 45.5 percent from the 2005 figure of CHF46 million to CHF67 million in 2006.

Significant upswing was achieved in the export of non-traditional products like ethanol, which reached a massive CHF12 million from 2005's figure of CHF25,400. Pakistan has consequently become the second biggest exporter of such items to Switzerland, next to China.

Textile exports shot up from CHF24.9 million in 2005 to CHF33.1 million last year, accounting for 50 percent of overall exports. These comprise home textiles and garments excluding knitwear.

Footwear exports upturned 72 percent to CHF1.2 million, sports goods export rose to CHF2.2 million while that of leather accessories including bags and gloves increased 5.5 percent to CHF1.9 million.
