Joint Economic meet with Turkey in Ankara

After the two preliminary sessions held in Ankara and Tehran, a four day session of 19th Iran-Turkey Joint Economic Commission started on February 18, 2007, was held in Ankara.

The economic experts of both Iran and Turkey were present in the meeting along with Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs Manouchehr Mottaki, Turkish Minister of Customs and Foreign Trade Kershad Tuzmen.

Mottaki and Tuzmen are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the issues to be agreed upon in the meeting.

The Economic commission meeting will be emphasizing on the increase of bilateral trade exchanges up to US $10 billion.

Iran-Turkey had trade exchanges for $6.7 billion in 2006, with an 80 percent increase as compared to the figures for 2005.

The major issues to be discussed in the current session include cooperation between small and medium-sized industrial units, preparation of mutual requirements in the field of machinery, and textile industry.
