According to the Statistics by the National Statistics Bureau in 2006 China's clothing production of above-scale garment enterprises amounted to 17.002 billion pieces.
Woven garments were 8.096 billion pieces, knitwear were 8.864 billion pieces. Compared with the same period in 2005 they respectively represented an increase of 11.86 percent, 12.48 percent, and 11.17 percent. Production growth rate fell substantially by about 5 percent from the same time of the previous year.
A survey of some industrial clusters in garment industry by China Garment Association reveals that the majority of industrial clusters kept their production growth within 10 percent, minority groups even showed negative growth.
In 2006, the whole garment industry output reached 51.2 billion pieces, up 10.54 percent over 2005. Woven garments accounted for 18 billion pieces, increasing 5.88 and 33.2 billion pieces were knitted apparel, an rise of 12.54 percent over 2005.
