Last year, cotton import of textile and garment industry witnessed an increase in both volume as well as value.
In 2006, textile and garment industry imported 181.2 thousand tons of cotton worth $219 million, registering a surge of 20.3 percent in volume and 31 percent in value compared to 2005.
Experts anticipate that there will be strong decline in exports to different countries in crop year 2006-07, including US, Uzbekistan, Brazil and Australia.
Moreover, India would witness a rise in the export growth rate of cotton as country is expected to have booming yield this year.
On the contrary, China would remain world's leading importer of cotton as there would be sharp increase of demand in domestic market, experts added.
