Also on this occasion, for two days, March 8th and 9th 2007, there will be a training course for museum staff and cultural researchers, who will assist artisans in introducing the intangible cultural heritage of Mekong region in the Festival. This course includes 30 trainees, 10 of whom come from cultural institutions of Vietnam (including Department of Cultural Heritage, Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, Museum in An Giang Province, and Department of Culture and Information in Kon Tum Province). Other 20 trainees will come from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and China. Course participants will study the methods applied in organization of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival and practise weaving performance together with artisans.
Training course and the Mekong River Region Mini Bamboo Festival are organized in co-operation between Department of Cultural Heritage and Vietnam Museum of Ethnology and with professional participation of the Smithsonian Institute.
