Last year, thread imported for domestic production witnessed an increasing trend compared to previous year.
In 2006, textile industry imported thread worth US $38.7 million, a year-on-year increase of 33.5 percent.
In December 2006, thread imports stood at $4.7 million, a hike of 24.6 percent compared to previous month and 90 percent over same period 2005.
Most of the goods were imported from Korea as it shipped goods worth $13.9 million at a growth rate of 24.8 percent, accounting for 36 percent of total import turnover of Vietnam.
The list of other major suppliers includes Japan with $7.7 million (rise of 11 percent), China worth $7.7 million (up 72 percent), Hong Kong at $7.4 million (up 86.6 percent), Sri Lanka (surge of 4.217 percent) and Philippines (up 1.220 percent).
