Use of cotton in 2006

According to a survey on 100 percent and blend cotton yarn production, cotton production in the country was stable in last year.
The survey included around 77 percent of total domestic cotton spinners.
In December last year, production of cotton yarn and thread was positive as 100 percent cotton increased by 0.8 percent.
However, last year's 100 percent cotton yarn production decreased by 1.3 percent.
On the other hand, production of blend yarn enhanced 20.5 percent in 2006.
Similarly, cotton fabric output registered a growth rate of 10.8 percent in last year, while garment production declined by 2.5 percent.
Nevertheless, exports to US reached 104.3 billion square meters with a surge of 1.7 percent.
In 2006-07, total cotton usage was balanced at 450,000 to 475,000 (480-pound bales).
