Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has urged Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry to organize handicraft villages all over Malaysia, which will allow talented creators to make this their life-long profession.
Speaking at the inauguration of National Craft Day celebration 2007 at the KL Craft Complex, Kuala Lumpur, he said, "We must strive to provide all the aid and guidance to give recognition to the artworks of our race."
PM stressed that the local artists should be trained and said that setting up of 'School Of Creative Design' was necessary.
Badawi further encouraged exports of handicraft, explaining that many visiting politicians were gifted with locally made items.
"I see that corporate bodies...banks are prepared to buy beautiful paintings and handicraft items for display in their buildings and offices...this is a change in attitude towards the handicraft products of our race," he added.
