MOT officials & ministers accused of textile/garment quota scam

Ministry of Public Security has conducted an investigation around the textile-garment quota scandal at the Ministry of Trade some time ago.
Initial investigation showed that the former Deputy Director, Import-Export, Ministry of Trade (MOT) Le Van Thang, Tran Van Suu, former head of import-export management in Hai Phong City and few other officials have been found guilty of purchasing and selling quotas for unlawful income.
The former Deputy Minister of Trade, Mai Van Dau and his son, Mai Thanh Hai, have also been accused of giving and taking bribes, and appropriating assets.
It was revealed that the MOT has issued five documents related to the implementation of the Vietnam-US Textile-Garment Agreement that are different from Government regulations.
The trial on bribery charges in the textile-garment quota scandal at the Trade Ministry starts this morning, in HCM City.
14 defendants, including former Deputy Trade Minister Mai Van Dau were present at the HCM City People's Court.
