Trade with GCC revolves around petroleum products

Statistics show that Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) trade with the US during the January-November 2006 period reached US $53.8 billion representing year-on-year rise of 8.7 percent.

Saudi Arabia remains top partner accounting for 62 percent of the total trade value, touching the mark of $36.4 billion.

Petroleum and petroleum product exports from Saudi Arabia to the US earned $28.7 billion, accounting for over 80 percent of the entire Gulf exports.

UAE ranked second with trade with US valued at $12.2 billion or 21 percent of the total. While petroleum product exports grabbed only 16 percent of US market share, nonferrous metals and garments bagged 19 percent and 13 percent share, respectively.

However, UAE emerged as the largest export market for the US accounting for more than 49 percent share and machineries touched $203 million mark.

Meanwhile, 96 percent of US imports from Kuwait were petroleum and petroleum products.
