Craftsman Award gives recognition to local artisans

"Craft - A Heritage" the two week long National Craft Expo, ended this Sunday at Craft Complex at Jalan Conlay.

The exhibition gave local handicraft industry a boost and public got a chance to appreciate and recognize it.

About 400 craftsmen and entrepreneurs from all parts of the country took part in the exhibition. The National Craft Day in Malaysia gives recognition to local artisans who play a great role in the development of the national craft industry.

Out of nine nominated craftsman, Hajah Habibah Zikri, bagged the National Craftsman Award. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi presented awards.

The National Craftsman Award is an honour for skilled craftsmen or individuals who contribute greatly towards rehabilitating, preserving and providing recognition to the nation's handicraft heritage.

National Craftsman Award would encourage youngsters to be involved in handicraft making.
