Kamal Nath calls for greater engagement of German SMES with India

Shri Kamal Nath, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, has called for greater engagement of German SMEs with India while interacting with the high-level delegation led by Mrs. Christa Thoben, Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy of the German Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), here.

Shri Nath hoped that it would be possible to establish a synergy between German technology and innovation with young Indian skilled workforce. He said “this way India and Germany can cooperate to create globally competitive products”.

While speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Thoben highlighted the great economic opportunities that Germany provided for Indian investors in general and NRW in particular and also noted NRW-based industry's interest in India.

She also expressed her keenness to follow up the current visit of the delegation with more sector-specific delegation visits in future. Both the Ministers complimented the role played by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce in the promotion of economic ties between the two countries and identified sectors such as IT, pharma, machine tools etc., for cooperation.

NRW and its capital Düsseldorf is a major industrial state in Germany. According to Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Düsseldorf about 2110 German companies in its jurisdiction are engaged business with India.

Indian exports to NRW were Euro 978 million in 2006 out of India's total exports to Germany of Euro 4.19 billion in 2006.The import from NRW in 2006 was Euro 1625 million in the same year with the total imports from Germany at Euro 6.36 billion.
